Barda is important to me.  She is one of two characters who came into my life when I was ready to quit comics and despite everything that I’ve had to put up with as a consequence, I’ve never regretted growing to love her.  She is a character who grew up on a planet of war and strife, and fully embraced that life, only to learn, with the help of her future husband Scott and a dancer named Auralie, that she didn’t fit into the world of Apokolips as well as she’d thought. Barda (perhaps begrudgingly) loves people with as much ferocity as she battles them.  Barda rarely worries for her own safety (“Mmmm?  Oh yes.  The bullets. I’d forgotten.”) but is full of anxiety over the well being of her loved ones.  Despite the fact that she spends a lot of time smashing faces in, she is, at her heart, someone who loves unconditionally and wants nothing more than to protect those she loves most.
